It is time to nominate all of your adult leaders who have gone above and beyond in their role in your units. Attached is the awards listing and definitions for your reference. Please also save the date for our annual District Awards dinner coming up on February 13th! Nominations can be submitted now with a deadline of January 15, 2025.

District Awards
The Valencia District presents a number of awards annually at the District Dinner held in February to
outstanding adults in the District for service to youth in the District. These awards are as follows:
District Award of Merit – This is a national BSA award which is the highest award that can be presented to an individual for distinguished service to youth on the area served by the District. The District may present one District Award of Merit for every 25 units registered in the District or portion thereof. With the number of units presently in Valencia District, we are allowed to present up to 2 District Awards of Merit annually. Download Nomination Form
For the “of the Year” awards, the nominee MUST BE registered and trained for their position.
Scoutmaster of the Year – Presented to a registered Scoutmaster who has done the most for his Troop of any Scoutmaster nominated. This award can only be received once in a lifetime.
Assistant Scoutmaster of the Year – Presented to a registered Assistant Scoutmaster who has done the most for their troop of any ASM nominated. This award can only be received once in a lifetime.
Troop Committee Chairman of the Year – Presented to a registered Troop Committee Chairman who has
done the most for their troop of any Troop Committee Chairman nominated. This award can only be received once in a lifetime.
Cubmaster of the Year – Presented to a registered Cubmaster who has done the most for their Pack of any Cubmaster nominated. This award can only be received once in a lifetime.
Tiger Den Leader of the Year – Presented to a registered Tiger Den Leader who has done the most for their Den of any Tiger Den Leader nominated. This award can only be received once in a lifetime.
Wolf/Bear Den Leader of the Year – Presented to a registered Wolf or Bear Den Leader who has done the
most for their Den of any Wolf/Bear Den Leader nominated. This award can only be received once in a lifetime.
Webelos Den Leader of the Year – Presented to a registered Webelos Den Leader who has done the most for their Den of any Webelos Den Leader nominated. This award can only be received once in a lifetime.
Pack Committee Chairman of the Year – Presented to a registered Pack Committee Chairman who has done the most for their troop of any Pack Committee Chairman nominated. This award can only be received once in a lifetime.
Extra Mile Award – Presented to any adult who has done anything outstanding for a unit. This award may
only be presented to an individual once every 3 years.
The nomination for the District Award of Merit must be submitted on a form prepared by BSA which is
normally available to be downloaded from the Council web site. There is no form for the other District Awards. They may be submitted to the District Awards Chairman on a plain piece of paper or as an e-mail attachment.
The nomination must include the name of the person being nominated, the unit number, the position the person holds and why the person is being nominated. People being nominated for position awards who are not the eventual award recipient will be automatically considered for the Extra Mile Award if they are eligible for it.
The awards nominations are due no later than January 15th.
